📋 We Evaluate Fit & Balance
🪶 We Recommend Adjustments
💻 Virtual Fit if Needed

TW Saddlery saddles are designed to be adjustable to your horse as they change over time. Our patented fitting system allows us to fine-tune saddle fit through fitting cushions and shims for improved comfort, balance, and freedom of movement.

Through our Photo Fit and Virtual Fit programs, our team can evaluate saddle balance and help recommend fitting adjustments for both horse and rider.

Our Photo Fit program is the first step in evaluating saddle fit and balance. Through detailed photos and information, we are often able to make fitting recommendations and shim adjustments without needing a live appointment.

If additional help is needed after your Photo Fit evaluation, we may recommend scheduling a Virtual Fit consultation.

Our Virtual Fit Process

Our Virtual Fit process begins with a Photo Fit evaluation using detailed saddle fit photos. In many cases, we are able to make fitting recommendations through photos alone.

If additional assistance is needed, we may recommend a Virtual Fit consultation where we can work directly with you to evaluate saddle balance, shim placement, rider position, and horse movement in real time.

This process allows us to continue supporting both horse and rider long after the original saddle purchase.

Our fitting system has helped trail, western, gaited, endurance, and everyday riders improve horse comfort, rider balance, and saddle stability over miles of riding.

3-D Fitting Basics

The TW Saddlery Patented Adjustable 3-D Fitting System

David Kaden fitting a black TW Saddlery Trail Light saddle on a grey Arabian mare.

When it comes to saddles, one of the most important factors for both horse and rider is proper fit. A poorly fitting saddle can cause discomfort, uneven pressure, restricted movement, or even long-term damage to your horse’s back. That’s why every TW Saddlery and Specialized Saddles model is built with our patented Adjustable 3-D Fitting System, which creates an exact mirror image of your horse’s back by independently adjusting width, arch, and angle for even pressure distribution and exceptional comfort.

Unlike any other saddle fitting system on the market, our patented technology is designed to account for the natural shape and asymmetry of your horse’s back. These three independent adjustments allow you to achieve a truly customized fit, providing a level of accuracy, versatility, and comfort that traditional saddle trees simply can’t match.

Why Saddle Fit Matters

Every rider knows that their horse’s comfort directly affects performance, willingness, and overall health. A saddle that does not fit correctly can:

  • Create pressure points that lead to soreness.

  • Cause restricted movement in the shoulders or back.

  • Lead to behavioral issues such as bucking, head tossing, or resistance.

  • Over time, result in muscle atrophy or uneven muscle development.

The truth is, no two horses are exactly alike. Even horses of the same breed and build may have subtle differences in shoulder size, back width, or topline shape. Just like people, horses can also be a little asymmetrical—one shoulder might be slightly larger, or their back may slope differently from one side to the other. A traditional, “one-size-fits-all” saddle simply cannot account for these natural variations.

That’s where the TW Saddlery Adjustable 3-D Fitting System makes all the difference.

The Only True 3-D Saddle Fit System

Our patented fitting system is built around a specially designed tree made from kiln-dried Southern Yellow Pine wrapped in fiberglass. Combined with our interchangeable fitting cushions and fitting inserts, it allows independent adjustment of the three critical dimensions of saddle fit:

  • Width – Fits narrow to extra-wide horses.
  • Arch – Matches the horse’s topline.
  • Angle – Matches shoulder and loin angles.

Adjustable Width

Closed-cell fitting cushions are available in multiple thicknesses and can be installed independently on each side of the saddle. This allows the width to adjust across approximately four inches while also accommodating horses that are naturally asymmetrical.

Adjustable Arch

A horse’s topline changes with age, conditioning, and muscle development. Our patented shim system allows the saddle’s arch to be adjusted to follow those changes.

Underside of a TW Saddlery saddle demonstrating less arch and more arch adjustments using the patented Adjustable 3-D Fitting System.
Fitting Inserts are only on the right side of the saddle demonstrating the arch change on the right side as compared to the left side

Adjustable Angle

Our wedge fitting inserts change the angle of the tree bars to match the slope of your horse’s shoulders and loins. This increases surface contact, eliminates pressure points, and helps prevent bridging.

Less Angle Adjustment

Adjustable for Both Sides – Solving the Asymmetry Problem

One of the biggest challenges in saddle fitting is dealing with the fact that many horses are not perfectly symmetrical. Traditional saddles assume that the left and right sides of the horse are identical—but riders know this is rarely the case.

With the TW Saddlery 3-D Fitting System, you can adjust each side independently. For example, if your horse’s left shoulder is larger than the right, you can make slight adjustments to balance the fit. This level of control is simply not possible with other saddle designs, and it is one of the main reasons why riders all over the world trust our saddles for their comfort, performance, and longevity.

Built to Adapt as Your Horse Changes

Unlike traditional saddles that fit your horse only on the day they’re purchased, the TW Saddlery Adjustable 3-D Fitting System is designed to adapt as your horse changes. Whether your horse gains muscle, changes condition with the seasons, or you’re fitting multiple horses, simple adjustments allow the saddle to maintain an even, comfortable fit for years to come.

About TW Saddlery

David and Tracy Kaden riding horses at White Sands National Monument in TW Saddlery saddles

At TW Saddlery, our mission has always been simple: create lightweight western saddles that deliver exceptional comfort, performance, and adjustability for both horse and rider.

Traditional western saddles often force horses and riders to adapt to the saddle. We believed the saddle should adapt to the horse instead. That philosophy led to the development of our patented 3-D Adjustable Fitting System — a saddle fitting system designed to fine-tune width, angle, arch, and balance independently on each side of the saddle.

Founded by lifelong horse people David Kaden and Tracy Webb-Kaden, TW Saddlery was created to bring true western styling together with the lightweight comfort and adjustability riders struggled to find in traditional western saddles. By combining broad weight distribution, spinal clearance, premium materials, and rider-focused seat designs, TW Saddlery saddles are built to help horses move freely while keeping riders comfortable hour after hour.

Today, TW Saddlery saddles are used worldwide for trail riding, ranch versatility, western dressage, gaited horses, mounted shooting, endurance riding, and everyday western riding. Riders choose TW Saddlery because our saddles are designed to continue adapting as horses change shape over time — helping improve comfort, freedom of movement, and overall performance.

Meet Tracy Webb-Kaden – Co-Founder

Tracy is a lifelong horsewoman whose family history with horses stretches back generations. Raised in a family deeply involved in Arabian horses, Tracy grew up immersed in showing, racing, competitive trail, and endurance riding long before she could drive a car.

After a successful career in the fashion industry, Tracy returned full-time to the horse world in 1996 with the purchase of her first Arabian endurance horse, Flight Leader. Together they completed the Tevis Cup in 1998, and in 2001 represented the Central Zone Team at the Pan American Endurance Championships, earning an FEI Silver Medal.

Over the years Tracy has:

  • Completed over 7,000 endurance miles
  • Finished more than twenty 100-mile rides
  • Won 30 endurance races and 16 Best Condition awards
  • Competed internationally in FEI endurance competition
  • Trained and campaigned horses for major endurance events including Tevis and Pan American Championships
  • Competed successfully in mounted shooting, trail riding, and western disciplines

Her lifelong experience across multiple disciplines heavily shaped the development of TW Saddlery’s western saddle line — combining rider security, lightweight construction, and long-hour comfort into a truly versatile western saddle system.

Meet David Kaden – Co-Founder & Inventor

David is the inventor behind the patented TW Saddlery and Specialized Saddles fitting systems. A lifelong horseman and accomplished endurance competitor, David has logged thousands of endurance miles with numerous wins and Best Condition awards throughout his career.

David’s extensive background in saddle fit research and pressure distribution studies helped shape the unique tree and fitting designs TW Saddlery is known for today. Through years of real-world testing, pressure pad analysis, and rider feedback, David developed a saddle system focused on broad weight distribution, spinal clearance, shoulder freedom, and long-term horse comfort.

In addition to endurance competition, David has also successfully competed in mounted shooting, jumping, and hunter disciplines — proving the versatility and effectiveness of the saddle designs across multiple riding styles.

David continues to educate riders on saddle fit through clinics and hands-on fitting instruction, helping horse owners better understand how proper saddle balance affects movement, comfort, and performance.

Flight Leader Farm

At Flight Leader Farm, David and Tracy have welcomed riders from around the world to ride, train, and experience their horsemanship firsthand. Their lifelong passion for horses extends beyond saddle design into breeding, training, endurance riding, mounted shooting, and Arabian racing.

As dedicated Arabian horse breeders and competitors, they continue campaigning homebred Arabian racehorses internationally, including successful Arabian flat racing competition in Sweden.

Our Commitment

At TW Saddlery, we believe horse comfort and rider comfort go hand in hand. Every saddle we build reflects decades of riding experience, saddle fit research, and real-world testing across multiple disciplines and thousands of miles in the saddle.

From lightweight western trail saddles to western dressage, ranch versatility, Wade saddles, and Australian-inspired designs, TW Saddlery continues to focus on one goal: building saddles that help horses move comfortably while giving riders the security, support, and customization they deserve.

TW Saddlery — lightweight western saddles built for comfort, fit, and the long ride.
