A Traditional Wade Saddle with Added Rider Security
The Texas Wade Saddle was designed for riders who appreciate the classic ranch-inspired style of a Wade saddle but prefer the added support and security of a more traditional western pommel.
While the Classic Wade features the traditional A-fork Wade pommel, the Texas Wade incorporates a classic western-style pommel that many riders feel provides added upper leg support and stability without the need for separate bucking rolls. Riders often describe the Texas Wade Saddle as offering a naturally secure feel similar to built-in bucking rolls while still maintaining the shorter skirt and practical post horn associated with traditional Wade saddles.
Its balanced seat position and narrower twist create a close-contact rider feel that remains comfortable over long hours in the saddle.
Adjustable Fit for Changing Horses
The Texas Wade Saddle is built on TW Saddlery’s patented adjustable fitting system, allowing the saddle to continue adapting as your horse changes condition over time.
Each saddle includes fitting cushions and a full shim/insert kit to help fine-tune fit, balance, and pressure distribution across the horse’s back. Unlike traditional adjustable saddles that only change gullet width, the Texas Wade can be adjusted independently on each side to better accommodate asymmetry, shoulder differences, muscle development, and seasonal condition changes.
The open spinal channel, flare through the shoulder and loin area, and adjustable support system help reduce pressure while encouraging freedom of movement and long-mile comfort.
Designed for Long Miles and Everyday Riding
The Texas Wade Saddle was designed to provide the secure feel of a traditional western saddle while reducing unnecessary bulk and improving comfort for both horse and rider.
The functional 3″ post horn works well for ponying horses, dragging logs, securing gear, and everyday ranch or trail riding. While sturdy and practical, it is not built as a reinforced competition roping horn intended for heavy dally roping or tying off steers.
Dropped western rigging helps reduce bulk beneath the rider’s leg while still maintaining balanced pressure distribution across the saddle. Multiple skirt options are available, including styles that work especially well for short-backed horses while still promoting shoulder freedom and spinal clearance.
Built from premium English bridle leather, the Texas Wade Saddle offers a softer, more broken-in feel right out of the box while maintaining the durability needed for everyday riding, ranch work, trail riding, and long hours in the saddle.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Texas Wade Saddle and the Classic Wade Saddle?
The Classic Wade Saddle features the traditional A-fork Wade pommel and classic vaquero-inspired styling many riders appreciate for its close-contact feel.
The Texas Wade Saddle combines the shorter skirt and functional post horn of a traditional Wade saddle with a more classic western-style pommel that offers additional upper leg support and rider security. Many riders feel the Texas Wade provides a naturally secure feel similar to built-in bucking rolls.
Both are built as adjustable Wade saddles using TW Saddlery’s patented fitting system and can be customized to suit the rider’s preferences.
Is the Texas Wade Saddle built on a traditional Wade tree?
Yes. The Texas Wade Saddle is built on a wood tree covered in fiberglass while maintaining the shorter skirt, post horn, and overall Wade-inspired design riders expect from a traditional Wade saddle.
Can I rope off the Texas Wade Saddle?
The Texas Wade Saddle features a functional 3″ post horn suitable for ponying horses, dragging logs, securing gear, and everyday ranch or trail riding. However, it is not designed as a reinforced competition roping horn intended for heavy dally roping or tying off steers.
For riders planning heavier ranch work or roping, we typically recommend our Ranch Versatility model, which is built with a reinforced roping horn and reinforced roping tree specifically designed for those applications.
Is the Texas Wade Saddle lightweight?
Yes. The Texas Wade Saddle weighs approximately 23 lbs, making it lighter and less bulky than many traditional western saddles while still maintaining a secure western feel and classic Wade saddle appearance.
Can the Texas Wade Saddle fit short-backed horses?
Yes. Multiple skirt options are available, including designs that work especially well for short-backed horses while still maintaining freedom of movement and spinal clearance.
Is the Texas Wade Saddle customizable?
Yes. Riders can customize leather color, tooling, seat material, hardware, conchos, dee ring options, and more to create a one-of-a-kind saddle tailored to their riding style and preferences.
How do I get the best fit for my horse?
For the most precise fit, many riders choose to order our Fit Kit along with their saddle. Before your saddle is bilt, we’ll send the Fit Kit so you can take measurements and photos of your horse. Once your saddle is ready to ship, we use those measurements to pre-fit the saddle to your horse before it leaves our shop.
After your saddle arrives, we also follow up through our Photo Fit process to help fine-tune balance, shim placement, and overall fit as needed.
