Built for Riders Who Love Traditional Wade Saddles
The Classic Wade is inspired by the timeless Wade saddle design made famous throughout the western ranching world for its distinctive A-fork pommel, secure rider feel, and practical working design. Originally popularized by working cowboys and vaqueros, Wade saddles became known for their functional post horn and balanced seat that made them well suited for long days in the saddle and ranch work.
Today, the Wade remains a favorite among riders who appreciate its classic western appearance, narrow twist, close-contact feel, and traditional ranch-inspired style. The Classic Wade blends that timeless western design with TW Saddlery’s patented adjustable fitting system for improved horse comfort and long-mile versatility.
Riders looking for additional upper leg stability can also order the Classic Wade with optional bucking rolls for added security on rough terrain, mountain riding, or long trail rides.
Designed for Long Miles and Everyday Riding
The Classic Wade was designed to maintain the secure feel and timeless appearance of a traditional Wade saddle while reducing unnecessary bulk and improving comfort for both horse and rider.
The functional 3″ post horn works well for ponying horses, dragging logs, securing gear, and everyday ranch or trail use. While sturdy and practical, it is not built as a reinforced competition roping horn intended for heavy dally roping or tying off steers.
Dropped western rigging helps reduce bulk beneath the rider’s leg while still maintaining balanced pressure distribution across the saddle. Multiple skirt options are available, including styles that work especially well for short-backed horses while still promoting shoulder freedom and spinal clearance.
Built from premium English bridle leather, the Classic Wade offers a softer, more broken-in feel right out of the box while maintaining the durability needed for everyday riding, ranch work, trail riding, and long hours in the saddle.
Is the Classic Wade built on a traditional Wade tree?
Can I rope off the Classic Wade?
The Classic Wade features a functional 3″ post horn suitable for ponying horses, dragging logs, securing gear, and everyday ranch or trail riding. However, it is not designed as a reinforced competition roping horn intended for heavy dally roping or tying off steers.
For riders planning heavier ranch work or roping, we typically recommend our Ranch Versatility model, which is built with a reinforced roping horn and reinforced roping tree specifically designed for those applications.
What is the difference between the Classic Wade and the Texas Wade?
The Classic Wade features the traditional A-fork Wade pommel and narrow twist that many riders appreciate for its close-contact feel and classic vaquero-inspired styling.
The Texas Wade combines the shorter skirt and functional post horn of a traditional Wade with a more classic western-style pommel that offers riders additional upper leg support and security. Many riders describe the Texas Wade as having a feel similar to built-in bucking rolls while still maintaining the overall Wade-inspired design.
Both saddles are built on TW Saddlery’s patented adjustable fitting system and can be customized to suit the rider’s preferences.
Is the Classic Wade lightweight?
Yes. The Classic Wade is lighter and less bulky than many traditional western saddles while still maintaining the secure feel and appearance riders expect from a Wade saddle.
Can the Classic Wade fit short-backed horses?
Yes. Multiple skirt options are available, including designs that work especially well for short-backed horses while still maintaining freedom of movement and spinal clearance.
Can I add bucking rolls to the Classic Wade?
Yes. The Classic Wade can be ordered with optional bucking rolls for riders wanting additional upper leg support and security, especially for mountain riding, rough terrain, or long trail rides.
Is the Classic Wade customizable?
Yes. Riders can customize leather color, tooling, seat material, hardware, conchos, dee ring options, and more to create a one-of-a-kind saddle tailored to their riding style and preferences.
How do I get the best fit for my horse?
For the most precise fit, many riders choose to order our Fit Kit along with their saddle. Before your saddle is built, we’ll send the Fit Kit so you can take measurements and photos of your horse. Once your saddle is ready to ship, we use those measurements to pre-fit the saddle to your horse before it leaves our shop.
After your saddle arrives, we also follow up through our Photo Fit process to help fine-tune balance, shim placement, and overall fit as needed.
Note: Any option with an asterisk * are custom orders and are non-refundable.
