Traditional Western Styling with Modern Western Dressage Performance
The Western Dressage Lt Saddle was designed for riders who want the balanced feel and communication needed for Western Dressage while still maintaining the classic appearance of a traditional lightweight western dressage saddle.
Its balanced seat position, narrow twist, and streamlined close-contact design help riders stay centered and connected with their horse throughout transitions, lateral work, and collection. Riders often appreciate how the saddle allows subtle communication while still providing the comfort and security expected from a western saddle.
The Light Series seat features TW Saddlery’s interchangeable shimmable seat system while still maintaining the traditional western appearance of a Cheyenne roll cantle. Riders can fine-tune seat feel, padding, and rider comfort while preserving the clean, classic look many Western Dressage riders prefer in both the arena and show pen.
At approximately 20 lbs, the Western Dressage Lt Saddle is significantly lighter than many traditional western saddles, helping reduce strain on both horse and rider during long schooling rides, clinics, and competition days.
Adjustable Fit for Changing Horses
The Western Dressage Lt Saddle is built on TW Saddlery’s patented adjustable fitting system, allowing the saddle to continue adapting as your horse changes condition over time.
Each saddle includes fitting cushions and a full shim/insert kit to help fine-tune fit, balance, and pressure distribution across the horse’s back. Unlike traditional adjustable saddles that only change gullet width, the Western Dressage Lt can be adjusted independently on each side to better accommodate asymmetry, shoulder differences, muscle development, and seasonal condition changes.
The open spinal channel, butterfly skirt design, and adjustable support system help reduce pressure while encouraging freedom of movement, flexibility, and long-term comfort.
Designed for Long Rides, Schooling Sessions, and Competition
The Western Dressage Lt Saddle was designed to combine arena performance with the comfort riders need for everyday lightweight western dressage riding.
Its lightweight construction, close-contact feel, and reduced bulk beneath the rider’s leg help minimize fatigue during long rides while improving rider communication and balance. The short round skirt design also works especially well for many short-backed horses without restricting shoulder movement or stride.
Built from premium English bridle leather, the Western Dressage Lt Saddle offers a soft, broken-in feel right out of the box while still providing the durability needed for everyday riding, clinics, trail riding, and competition use.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the Western Dressage Lt Saddle different from our Western Dressage Saddle?
While both the Western Dressage Lt and Western Dressage Saddle are designed to provide the balance, close contact, and rider alignment Western Dressage riders look for, the biggest difference is in the seat construction and level of rider seat adjustability.
The Western Dressage Saddle features a fully sewn-in traditional seat that is sewn in to the saddle. This design offers a clean, classic western appearance with a stable and supportive ride many riders appreciate for arena work and competition.
The Western Dressage Lt features TW Saddlery’s Light Series shimmable seat system integrated into a traditional Cheyenne roll cantle. While the seat is sewn into the saddle for a more traditional western appearance, riders can still adjust seat shims to customize rider comfort, balance, and seat feel.
Many riders who prefer a more traditional fixed-seat feel gravitate toward the standard Western Dressage Saddle, while riders wanting additional rider comfort adjustability often prefer the lightweight western dressage saddle.
Western Dressage Lt vs. Trail Light
While both the Western Dressage Lt and Trail Light are built on TW Saddlery’s lightweight Light Series design and feature our patented adjustable fitting system, the biggest difference is in the seat construction and overall riding style they were designed for.
The Trail Light features a fully interchangeable and removable Light Series seat system. Riders can remove and replace the seat while also adjusting seat shims to customize rider comfort, balance, and seat feel.
The Western Dressage Lt was designed to maintain a more traditional western appearance for riders wanting a cleaner Western Dressage look in the arena. While the seat is sewn into the traditional Cheyenne roll cantle rather than being fully removable like the Trail Light, it still retains the shimmable Light Series seat design for adjustable rider comfort and balance.
Many riders describe the Western Dressage Lt as offering a more traditional western saddle appearance and feel while still maintaining the lightweight comfort, close contact, and rider alignment Western Dressage riders are looking for.
Is the Western Dressage Lt Saddle lightweight?
Yes. The Western Dressage Lt Saddle weighs approximately 20 lbs, making it lighter and less bulky than many traditional western saddles while still maintaining rider security and durability.
Can the Western Dressage Lt Saddle fit short-backed horses?
Yes. The short round skirt design works especially well for many short-backed horses while still maintaining shoulder freedom and spinal clearance.
Is the Western Dressage Lt Saddle adjustable?
Yes. The saddle is built on TW Saddlery’s patented adjustable fitting system, allowing riders to independently adjust each side of the saddle using fitting cushions and shims to better accommodate changes in muscle, conditioning, and asymmetry over time.
Can I trail ride in the Western Dressage Lt Saddle?
Absolutely. While designed with Western Dressage riders in mind, many riders also use this saddle for trail riding, clinics, and everyday riding because of its lightweight feel, balanced seat position, and long-ride comfort.
Is the Western Dressage Lt Saddle customizable?
Yes. Riders can customize leather color, tooling, seat material, hardware, conchos, and more to create a one-of-a-kind saddle tailored to their preferences.
How do I get the best fit for my horse?
For the most precise fit, many riders choose to order our Fit Kit along with their saddle. Before your saddle is built, we’ll send the Fit Kit so you can take measurements and photos of your horse. Once your saddle is ready to ship, we use those measurements to pre-fit the saddle to your horse before it leaves our shop.
After your saddle arrives, we also follow up through our Photo Fit process to help fine-tune balance, shim placement, and overall fit as needed.
