Built for Security on the Trail
Australian saddles have long been favored by riders looking for additional security without the bulk of a deep western swell or large bucking rolls. The Aussie-style poleys on the Ultra Secure Aussie Light help support the rider’s upper leg, giving added confidence on steep descents, rough terrain, young horses, or long mountain rides.
Combined with the lightweight design and adjustable fit system, the Ultra Secure Aussie Light delivers security without sacrificing comfort or freedom of movement.
Lightweight Design Without Sacrificing Comfort
The Ultra Secure Aussie Light is built on the same lightweight adjustable tree as the TW Trail Light, helping reduce unnecessary weight for both horse and rider. The removable seat system allows riders to easily customize cushioning and seat feel while maintaining the close-contact feel many riders prefer for trail and endurance riding.
The short skirt design also works well for compact or shorter-backed horses while helping reduce restriction through the shoulders and loin area.
Adjustable Fit for Changing Horses
Every Ultra Secure Aussie Light Saddle includes:
- One pair of ¾” fitting cushions
- Complete shim/insert fitting kit
TW Saddlery’s patented fitting system allows riders to fine-tune saddle balance and fit as horses change shape over time due to conditioning, age, topline development, or seasonal changes.
For the most precise fit possible, riders can also order our Fit Kit prior to saddle construction. Measurements and tracings are used to pre-fit the saddle before it leaves our shop.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Ultra Secure Aussie and the Ultra Secure Aussie Light?
The Ultra Secure Aussie features a traditional stitched-in padded seat similar to the Featherweight Trail, while the Ultra Secure Aussie Light features TW Saddlery’s removable interchangeable seat system similar to the Trail Light. The Aussie Light allows riders to easily change seat materials, cushioning, and seat feel.
What are Aussie poleys?
Poleys are the padded knee supports found on Australian saddles. They help provide additional rider security and leg stability, especially on rough terrain, steep hills, or unpredictable horses.
Is the Ultra Secure Aussie Light good for trail riding?
Yes. The Ultra Secure Aussie Light was specifically designed for trail riders looking for a lightweight saddle with added rider security and long-distance comfort.
Can I choose English or Western rigging?
Yes. The Ultra Secure Aussie Light can be ordered with either English or Western rigging depending on rider preference.
Does this saddle fit short-backed horses?
Yes. The short rounded skirt design works very well for many shorter-backed horses while still providing stability and weight distribution.
Can the fit be adjusted later?
Yes. The patented adjustable fitting system allows riders to fine-tune fit and balance over time using the included shim and insert system.
How do I get the best fit for my horse?
For the most precise fit possible, many riders choose to order our Fit Kit along with their saddle. Before your saddle is built, we’ll send you our At-Home Fit Kit so you can take measurements and tracings of your horse’s back. Those measurements are then used to pre-shim and fine-tune the fit of the saddle to your horse before it leaves our shop.
After your saddle arrives, we also follow up through our Photo Fit process to help fine-tune balance, shim placement, and overall fit as needed.
